Getting Around UC

Bearcat Transportation System

The Bearcat Transportation System operates shuttles around UC from 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday. Students can view routes and schedules on the UC Mobile App or at uc.doublemap.com/map.

NightRide

NightRide offers UC students on-demand, safe transportation within one mile of campus. 11 vans and operate from 8 pm to 2 am Sunday through Wednesday and 8 pm to 5am Thursday through Saturday. A Bearcat card is required to utilize NightRide. Each person who presents a valid card is allowed one guest. Students can request a ride by calling 513-556-RIDE (7433). Wait times may increase during peak hours. Please remind your student of the importance of waiting for the ride rather than taking a chance.

Parking

First year students are allowed to bring cars to campus. Something to discuss with your family is -- do they really need it? As an urban campus, almost everything students need is within walking distance. Many students don't end up using their vehicles as much as they expected to, and their permit ends up being an expensive storage fee. Many alternative transportation campus and area options are available. One of the biggest factors influencing your decision may be how far away you are from campus and how frequently your student will want to go home. If your student does want to bring a car to UC, they will need to purchase a permit. Permit sales will open later this summer.

Motorist Assistance

Free motorist assistance, including jumpstarts and unlocking of vehicles is provided free within a 3 block radius of campus. An air compressor (behind French Hall near Dabney) and electric vehicle charging stations are also available around campus.

Bicycle Registration & Service

All students are asked to register their bicycle with the Department of Public Safety. Information collected during the registration process is entered into a database and used to identify the bicycle in case of theft. The Bike Kitchen is a free service provided to the community by the Office of Sustainability, which promotes bicycle culture, safety, and accessibility as a sustainable form of transportation that builds community and fosters healthy lifestyles. The Bike Kitchen offers repair services, tune-ups, and workshops for free.

Beyond UC

Metro Bus

The Metro Bus is Cincinnati's public bus service. Students can register for UC's Metro Program to receive a free Metro card that allows them to ride for reduced fares.

REDBIKE

REDBIKE offers bike rental stations with 12 locations around campus. Students can rent a bike for as long as they need and return to it to any of the REDBIKE locations.

Zipcar

Zipcar offers car rentals via a car share program on campus. Students can use the self-service station to borrow a car on-demand.

Long Distance Transportation

Several public services assist students in traveling from UC to various cities around Ohio and the US. Several companies even have stops right on campus.

Are there shuttles to the airport for students? Do students receive free or reduced cost passes for city transportation?

Hi Tandra - Yes, students get reduced prices for Cincinnati's Metro Bus (but they do need to first obtain their UC Metro Program card - see above). Generally, students arrange rideshare (e.g. Lyft, Uber, etc.) or a shuttle...see more
