Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students Juan R. Guardia, Ph.D. and Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Jim Whalen welcomed students back to UC this week. The following message was shared with UC community members. We encourage you to partner with us in reminding your student to adhere to the following guidance, including COVID-19 safety precautions, crime reduction strategies, and utilizing campus resources. Additional information is available in UC's Return to Campus Guide.

Dear Student,

Welcome to Fall 2020 at UC! We are excited to have each of you as part of our campus community this year. Although this semester is not what many of us had imagined, the university community has taken many steps to ensure that we are able to have a safe and productive living and learning environment this Fall. Please review the following information carefully to ensure you are aware of important precautions, procedures, and resources that will be in effect on- and off-campus. Together, we all have the responsibility to promote a safe and healthy environment to ensure that our campus continues to remain open this fall. Join us in our commitment in upholding the Bearcat Bond!

COVID-19 Responsibilities

All community members are required to wear a facial covering while on campus, unless eating or inside your residence hall room. Additionally, all are expected to maintain 6 feet of social distance and restrict gatherings to 10 people or fewer. We also encourage you to practice good hand hygiene and stay home if you feel sick. More information regarding safe practices can be found on the Stay Safe website. Socializing with friends is understandably an important part of the college experience. We encourage you to do so safely and with precautions in place, both in and around campus.

Any student who fails to abide by UC’s COVID-19 guidelines may be subject to charges under the Student Code of Conduct (SCOC). We invite you to read our SCOC, which outlines your rights and responsibilities as students in promoting a safe and productive living and learning environment.

Mind What Matters

UC encourages you to “Mind What Matters” by taking precautions to reduce your risk of being a victim of common crimes on campus, particularly theft. Don’t leave valuables unattended and be aware of your surroundings. Additionally, be cognizant of unknown individuals contacting and requesting information (i.e. scams, catfishing) from you via e-mail, social media, and video chats. UC is committed to your safety on- and off-campus and in the Uptown community.
